Dell 5100mp Projector

Some teardown shots from repairing a broken Dell 5100mp Projector

Here are some teardown shots I took while repairing a broken Dell 5100mp Projector.

This business projector first hit the market in August 2005 with an MSRP of $3000. Today you can find them $100-200 (I found this broken unit for $80).

This projector is special in that, despite its age, it has an HDMI port and a rather large native resolution of 1400x1050 (there is a scaled 1080p mode). This results in a projector that is able to connect to modern computers and produce a sharp, high resolution picture for cheap.

The broken projector I bought had a dislodged mirror in the lens assembly that required the entire projector be disassembled to get at. The previous owner had apparently dropped it, causing the mirror to pop out. When I got to the mirror assembly, I found that dell technicians used a small clip and three dots of hot glue to keep the mirror in place. Clearly that wasn't enough.
