Fixing Firefox Displaylink Freezing And Stutters
Fix freezes and stuttering in Firefox when connected to a displaylink-connected monitor.
You may encounter lag or freezing/stuttering when using firefox on a displaylink connected monitor. The issue manifests as choppy scrolling or choppy video playback.
The Fix
The fix here is simple: Disable hardware acceleration in firefox.
- Open the firefox menu on the top right of the browser window
- Click "options"
- Scroll down to Performance
- Untick "Use recommended performance settings"
- Untick "Use hardware acceleration when available"
- Restart browser.
That's it. When firefox runs again, any choppiness should be gone.
Note that by disabling hardware acceleration, firefox may use more CPU resources. On relatively modern computers, this shouldn't be an issue, but it is worth noting for those on older, less performant systems.
